Are Silicones Deceiving You?

    Are Silicones Deceiving You?

Have you ever used a product that gave your hair a slip like silk,  made it shine like a diamond and fought frizz like a warrior only to find out it was all a lie. Hours later your hair is weighed down, dull and lifeless. Smh!  Silicones gives the illusion of healthy hair when it's infact causing great harm.
Most silicones aren't water-soluble so build up is unavoidable. For type 2, 3 & 4 hair silicones can weigh down the hair.  It'll disrupt your volume and curl definition. It's especially something to avoid if you have low porosity hair.  Over time it'll create a film over the hair cuticle which will require a clarifying shampoo to remove it. Common silicones used in hair products are dimethicone, cyclomethicone, cyclopentasiloxane, amodimethicone,  dimethicone, dimethiconol, phenyl trimethicone, PEG-12 and dimethicone copolymer.

A great alternative to silicones are natural vegetable oils. You can use oils to detangle, control frizz and shine. You can use them to pre-shampoo your hair as a preparation for shampooing or encourage moisture retention.  Our Low Porosity and High Porosity Hair Elixirs are multi-purpose oil that can help you avoid the use of silicones.
